Standards you can check
Most studios describe their work with adjectives. I’d rather show you the measurements. A claim you can check is worth more than a promise you have to take on trust.
Every website I ship is measured in a real browser at phone size before I call it done. Not eyeballed. Measured, with the same checks every time. This page lists the standards, then holds my own site to them, with the numbers and the date.
What I won’t promise. I never guarantee search rankings, traffic, leads, or revenue, because no one honestly can. I don’t use stock photography or AI-generated images on your site; it’s built from your real work, or it isn’t finished. And I won’t tell you a website is unhackable, because none is. What I promise is the part I control: how the site is built, and that you can check it.
The standards, in plain terms.
It works in a hand. The page fits a phone screen with no sideways scrolling. Sentences are never smaller than 14px. Short labels can be smaller, never below 11px. Every button and link is at least 44px, bigger than an adult fingertip. Pinch-zoom is never turned off, because it’s the one tool someone with tired eyes has left.
It can be read. All visible text meets the WCAG contrast standard of 4.5 to 1 or better, so it holds up in sunlight, on older screens, and for eyes that aren’t twenty.
It holds still and loads fast. The page doesn’t jump around while it loads (layout shift under 0.1), and the main content shows in under 2.5 seconds. Both are Google’s published “good” thresholds, not numbers I made up.
It’s boring underneath, on purpose. Plain HTML and CSS with little or no JavaScript. No page builder, no plugin stack. Out-of-date platforms and plugins are a common way small-business sites get broken into. Mine don’t carry that surface, and fewer moving parts is also why they’re fast.
You own it. Your domain, your hosting, your files, in your own accounts. I’m a helper you can remove. If you ever stop paying me, the site keeps working. A care plan buys my time, never your access.
This site, measured on 8 October 2026. The same checks I run on every project, run on this site at 390px in a real browser:
- Fits a phone screen: 0px overflow
- Pinch-zoom: never turned off
- Smallest sentence: 14px · smallest label: 12px
- Buttons big enough for a thumb: all 44px or larger
- Text contrast: lowest 5.3:1, above the 4.5:1 standard
- Holds still while loading: layout shift 0, under the 0.1 good threshold
- Loads fast: main content in 0.4s on a fast connection, under the 2.5s good threshold
When I redesign, I re-measure and update this page. If these numbers ever go stale, hold me to it.
